Mission:
The mission of the Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast is to preserve and enrich storytelling arts for people of all ages through education, performances, research, workshops and writing.
Our Purpose:
· Preservation, education and enhancemant of the art of storytelling.
· Growing an appreciation of storytelling among young people and others unfamiliar with the art and enjoyment of storytelling.
· Encouraging adults to preserve history and culture, both personal and community, through the art of storytelling.
Strategies:
· Conducting oral history research.
· Developing new stories that preserve the folk history of the region.
· Maintaining a lending library with a collection of storytelling books and audio-visuals.
· Conducting Educational programs including elder hostels, workshops for youth, teachers, and others
· Encouraging College Courses.
· Promoting the Story Spinners and other storytelling guilds.
· Sponsoring the annual Storytelling Festival of Carolina.
· Promoting Storytellers camps and performances for and by youngsters.
· Sponsoring Periodic storytelling performance, such as ghost stories on Halloween.
· Sponsoring the North Carolina Liar’s competition.
